We thought that there should be an overseeing authority to promote multiculturalism as a philosophy and as a way of life - as an accepted way of life in a country which was quite obviously, clearly a multicultural country.

CONTINUATION OF INTERVIEW AS TEXT

Some of our migrants have fought in wars for Australia and they would do so tomorrow if it was necessary. There's no doubt about that. And it was the Australian mind that we had to tune into, in this area, and it was I think the job of the Australian Institute for Multicultural Affairs to address these problems that may arise or have arisen from the (Galbally) Report itself and the philosophy of multiculturalism.
