ANZ Reference Centre, provided by EBSCO publishing, provides full text access to many Australian and overseas newspaper and magazines, as well as access to news services, such as AAP General News.
Searching is a little complex, but you can check if you are on the right track by looking at the subject headings in subject search, and by using the search options (basic, guided, expert).
All of the journals usually held by school libraries are included, the advantage for students being that they can search for articles from anywhere at any time; and for schools that subscription to ANZ Reference Centre costs less than subscription to the commonly held journals and newspapers. The cost is approximately $4000 per year. |

First Families 2001 is a database and collection of stories about the people of Australia, past and present. During the project, visitors contributed information about the earliest generation of each branch of their families, thereby creating a vast database, effectively a permanent snapshot of Australia's heritage. It is fun to search for your own ancestors, and frustrating that you can no longer add information to the database.
Other useful resources at the site include a timeline, parallelling Australian and world history, some family tree templates, and a school project book - a teacher's resource for helping students conduct their family research. |

Go to the archive, Newstext, and search 150 newspapers, Australian and overseas, not including the Sydney Morning Herald for articles about Australian and world news dating back to 1984.
This service covers much the same newspapers as ANZ Reference Centre does. Schools get 1500 credits for the calendar year 2002 for $450. An article generally costs one credit point. However, ANZ Reference Centre covers many magazines as well, for a higher price.
